Whitwell Sawmill on The Move!

The first few months of 2025 have been quite an adventure as we have moved Whitwell Sawmill along with S. Nicholl Furniture to our exciting new premises. Whilst quite a few of you have already visited us here we thought it only right that we told you all about our recent move.

During March we downed tools on our current projects and nervously began to start clearing the workshop and wood store. Van loads of timber and equipment were moved daily until it was time to move the larger machinery and kiln with a flatbed trailer. We had this on hire for a week so the pressure was on for the team to work carefully but efficiently to get everything safely moved without damage. In addition we had our fingers crossed for good weather so nothing got damaged on the back of the flatbed!  

Luckily the dry warm spell we all enjoyed during March played in our favour and despite some rather anxious journeys I am pleased to report all our timber and equipment was safely moved to our new premises. Whilst we continued to empty our unit at the farm, work began on setting up the new premises! It was a big undertaking and we worked round the clock to get back up and running as normal asap.

So what can you expect from our new premises? We have moved to a larger space with a bigger workshop and office. We have a designated space for all our sawmill timber, an area for the kiln, and an enclosed yard to keep everything on one site. We also have a space that will be developed into a showroom – at the moment you can view various finished pieces from the sawmill.

We are still located outside Hitchin, just now we are in the village of Hexton. Visits are by appointment only so if you are thinking of purchasing some timber from us in the near future then please do get in contact. We would be more than happy to show you around!
