About Us

Welcome to Whitwell Sawmill. We are a small local wood yard and sawmill specialising in kiln dried locally sourced timber. 

Whitwell Sawmill is a division of S. Nicholl Furniture, owned by myself Simon Nicholl. Having worked making bespoke furniture for over a decade, I have been passionate wanting to change the way we make use of our wood in the UK, and move away from having our furniture made from imported timber. With the help of my team I have been able to expand the business to create Whitwell Sawmill, selling local English hardwoods suitable for use to many woodworking projects.  

Using our mobile sawmill over the last couple of years we have built up an extensive collection of English Timbers (including Waney Edge Timbers) that are available to purchase.  

All of our timber is documented meaning we know where each piece came from, why it came down, when it was cut and when it was kiln dried. Our timber has very low transport miles and all of it has been felled for good reason. This is something we are very passionate about promoting with the UK and you will find information about the felling/ source on each batch of timber listed.  

We can also provide machining services such as cutting, flattening, sanding and finishing on the boards, meaning you can purchase the wood exactly as you need. We can even go as far as to offer a complete furniture build with your chosen woods through S. Nicholl Furniture.
